Shotgun Found After Barricaded Person Prompts Shelter-In-Place Order: Plainfield Police

Plainfield police said no charges were filed in connection with the incident Sunday evening in the 25400 block of West Bower Court.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police issued a shelter-in-place order on Sunday evening, amid concerns that a man barricaded in a home during a "domestic disturbance" could have a shotgun, authorities said.

Officers responded at about 5:43 p.m. to the 25400 block of West Bower Court for the report of a disturbance.

A resident reported that following a verbal dispute, a family member entered a bedroom and closed the door. Shortly after, someone heard "what sounded like a shotgun being racked," Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch. Family members left the residence and called 911 out of concern for their safety.

When officers arrived at about 5:43 p.m., they attempted to make contact with the 32-year-old man inside the house. A shelter-in-place was ordered for neighbors in the immediate area out of an abundance of caution, due to the possibility of the man having a gun, Novak said.

After about two hours, police said the man came out of the house and was detained while officers investigated. Officers found a shotgun inside the residence and took it "for safekeeping," Novak said, but in the end, police did not have enough evidence to substantiate criminal charges, so the man was released from custody.
