Plainfield Municipal Buildings Closed To Slow Coronavirus Spread
All Plainfield municipal buildings closed to the public on Thursday, March 19, and they are expected to remain closed until further notice
PLAINFIELD, IL — In response to growing concerns over the new coronavirus, the village of Plainfield has closed all its municipal buildings to the public until further notice. This includes Village Hall, the police station, and the Public Works building. The facilities shut their doors at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, though village employees will continue to work in them so as to continue as many normal operations as possible.
With so many buildings closed, many village services are moving online or over the phone. The village has released a list of ways that residents will be able to make use of those services from the safety of home; that list can be found on the village website.
Many day-to-day functions of village government will continue as normal despite the closure. Police and Fire will still respond to 911 calls, garbage pick-up will continue on its regular schedule. That said, village residents should expect a few changes to the normal routine.

First, special pick-ups and bulk item pick-ups by Waste Management have been cancelled. The spring clean-up has also been cancelled. Residential inspections for remodeling, basements and additions have been suspended, and it is expected that future village board meetings will take place digitally or over the phone. While village parks remain open, the use of playground equipment is discouraged as it is possible for the coronavirus to survive on their surfaces.
Village residents are further encouraged to continue practicing social distancing during the pandemic; it is advised that all people, especially the elderly, avoid public interactions as much as possible and maintain at least six feet between individuals when social interactions are unavoidable. The closure of village municipal buildings are meant to help encourage this method of slowing the spread of infection.
