PLAINFIELD, IL — Another house on Lockport Street, a Tudor Revival structure circa 1927, has received landmark status.

Village Board trustees unanimously approved a motion to grant the house at 23823 W. Lockport St. local landmark designation during the regular Village Board meeting on May 6.

Before the house, near Ottawa Park, made it onto the Village Board agenda, the village's Historic Preservation Commission unanimously recommended it in April for landmark status and inclusion in a historic district.

The survey form from the village's "Historic Urban Survey" identifies the structure as "a very good example of the Tudor Revival style in the Village; retains a high degree of integrity and, importantly the original windows — multi-light sash — have been retained as a significant aspect of the expression of the style."

New owners recently purchased the property and have undertaken the restoration of many of its neglected unique exterior features, according to village documents. Features including half-timbering, fascia, soffits, corbels, brackets and other trim pieces have been or will be restored or duplicated and painted. The eight-light casement sash and eight-light sash windows are also being restored.

The property was nominated for landmark nomination based on three criteria in the village's Historic Preservation ordinance: It embodies distinguishing characteristics of an architectural style or the study of a period, type, method of construction or use of indigenous materials; embodies elements of design, detailing, materials or craftsmanship that are of architectural significance; and is suitable for preservation.

In November, the circa 1930s house down the street at 23819 W. Lockport St. received landmark status as it's "an excellent example of the Classical Revival style on a smaller house," Patch reported.
