Part Of Lockport Street Will Fully Close For Badly Deteriorated Railway Crossing Repairs

The Illinois Department of Transportation is overseeing the upgrade of the at-grade crossing on Lockport Street in downtown Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A badly deteriorated at-grade railroad crossing in downtown Plainfield is going to be repaired, village officials said Wednesday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will work with Wisconsin Central Limited to repair the crossing on Lockport Street west of Main Street.

In light of the construction, Lockport Street will be fully closed to through traffic at the WCL tracks, near Wood Farm Road, beginning at 9 a.m. June 3. If the weather cooperates, the work should be finished on or before 7 a.m. June 10, Community Relations Director Amy De Boni told Patch.

Detours will be in place during the road closures. Westbound traffic on Lockport Street should drive north on Division Street, west on 143rd Street and south on Wallin Drive to get back on Lockport Street. Eastbound drivers should reverse the westbound detour route.
