Officers found the teen conscious and breathing, and the first officer at the scene applied a tourniquet to his arm, Cmdr. Anthony Novak said in a news release. Plainfield Fire Protection District paramedics arrived and continued life-saving measures, and the boy was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

Police say the shooting was not random but a targeted incident, and "there is no further threat to the public known to the Plainfield Police Department."

On Monday, Mayor John Argoudelis said on Facebook that "all involved are from another town" and that the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Residents responded to Argoudelis on social media, with many expressing concern over a shooting in Plainfield and what some perceived as a lack of communication. Some said they did not receive the shelter-in-place alert that was issued to downtown-area residents, and others expressed that more information should have been released to the public.

Novak declined to comment on where the victim or suspected shooter are from, but said he understands the concern of many.

He said no arrest has been made in the shooting, "but this is a very active and ongoing investigation, with several leads detectives are following up on."

Monday afternoon, Plainfield police also shared a Facebook post, noting that the shooting "is not related to the death investigation that occurred on June 29, 2025, in the 14700 block of S. Eastern Ave." In that incident, a woman was found dead in a car the afternoon of Sunday, June 29 and "had likely been in such a state for some time," police said. A cause of death for the woman has not been released.

More information on the Settlers' Park shooting will be released as it's available, according to police.

The investigation remains active and open. Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ron Mikos at 815-267-7237 or Detective Sergeant Colin Mulacek 815-439-7654.
