Canadian National Train Derailed In Plainfield Friday

The Plainfield PD said several roads will remain blocked for an unknown period of time.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Canadian National northbound train got derailed in Plainfield Friday when its front wheels came off, Fire Chief John Stratton told Patch.

Multiple roads in the village will remain blocked due to this, the Plainfield Police Department said in a social media post. The roads that are inaccessible are:

  • Naperville-Plainfield Road near Michigan Street
  • Route 126 (Main Street) east of Route 59
  • Center Street south of Route 126.
  • Eastern Avenue south of Route 126.
  • Lockport Street near Miles Street (east of Route 59).

Stratton said the fire and police departments are still investigating the matter. Residents have been asked to avoid the area as traffic congestion is expected to last for several hours while the train is removed.
