Coronavirus Cases Surpass 35K In Will County: WCHD

Available ICU beds in the Will-Kankakee region have decreased to 34 out of 162 as of Monday, according to IDPH.

WILL COUNTY, IL — The total number of coronavirus cases in Will County has surpassed 35,000, according to county health data. As of Monday, the Will County Health Department reported 35,433 cases and 498 deaths.

The test positivity in the county was as 19.6 percent as of Friday, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The number of new cases per 100,000 people for the same week was 743 and the target is 50 or fewer.

The entire state is under the governor's Tier 2 mitigations and Region 7 (Will and Kankakee counties) recently also has Tier 2 mitigations imposed on them after a surge in coronavirus positivity. As of Tuesday, the region is at a positivity rate of 18.5 percent, a decrease from 20.7 percent a few days prior.

Available ICU beds in the region have decreased to 34 out of 162 as of Monday, and 60 out of 137 total ventilators are available.

Joliet still has the highest number of cases in the county. According to WCHD, Joliet had 955 reported cases for the week of Nov. 9 and a week earlier it reported 535 cases. Plainfield had the second highest number in the county for the week of Nov. 9 with 620 cases, an increase of 217 from a week prior.

State health officials on Tuesday reported 9,469 new cases of the coronavirus and 125 more deaths from COVID-19. IDPH says all the state's emergency management regions have seen declining positivity rates in recent days, though hospitalizations and daily deaths remain high. The statewide totals now stand at 674,089 infections, 11,677 confirmed deaths and 491 probable deaths.
