DUI Driver Crashed Into 2 Parked Cars, Found Slumped Over Unconscious: Plainfield PD

While trying to wake the driver, officers noticed an open bottle of alcohol and fresh cannabis "in plain view," officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield man accused of driving under the influence hit two parked cars July 16 before police found him slumped over and unconscious in the parking lot of Rise Up Martial Arts, officials said.

Plainfield police and paramedics responded to the business at 13544 S. Route 30 after receiving a call about a traffic crash involving Kelvin M. Greenfield Jr., 37. The man was slumped over, unconscious in the driver's seat of a Ford Taurus.

While trying to wake the driver, officers noticed an open bottle of alcohol and fresh cannabis "in plain view," Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

Paramedics evaluated Greenfield for minor injuries before he refused further medical attention.

Officers made "several observations ... to believe Kelvin operated the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol." As a result, Greenfield agreed to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently placed under arrest.

When officers attempted to escort him to the squad car, Greenfield sat on the ground and refused to follow orders.

"Eventually officers were able to place Kelvin in the police vehicle," Novak said.

Greenfield was booked at the Plainfield Police Department, charged with the following and released with a notice to appear in court.

  1. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  2. Driving while license suspended/revoked
  3. Operating an uninsured motor vehicle
  4. No registration plate on vehicle
  5. Unlawful possession of cannabis by driver
  6. Resist/obstruct peace officer
  7. Aggravated DUI, no insurance
