Fire Kills 2 Pets, Causes $75K In Damage At Plainfield Home: FD

The fire that broke out in the kitchen of a Plainfield house was determined to be accidental, officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A fire that started Tuesday evening in the kitchen of a Plainfield house caused $75,000 in damages, officials said in an update Wednesday.

The Western Will County Communication Center received a 911 call at 5:25 p.m. reporting a kitchen fire at a one-story, single-family house in the 13400 block of South Rivercrest Drive. The first firefighters arrived in less than two minutes and found smoke coming from the residence. They were able to extinguish the fire that was contained in the kitchen, according to a news release.

The house's resident escaped with a family pet before crews arrived. Firefighters found two other animals dead while searching the house.

Plainfield Fire Protection District investigators determined the fire to be accidental, officials said. No firefighters were injured in the process, but the resident was transported by paramedics to an area hospital for evaluation.

NICOR and ComEd were called to the scene to secure the utilities. The home was deemed uninhabitable.

Personnel from the Bolingbrook, Naperville and Oswego fire departments assisted Plainfield crews on the scene, while the Aurora Township, Morris, Minooka and Troy fire protection districts provided station coverage.
