Drunken Plainfield Man Yells Racial Slurs, Punches Neighbor In Hate Crime: Prosecutors
After he was placed under arrest, the man, 30, said he would have killed the victim if it weren't for him drinking, court documents show.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield man is accused of yelling racial slurs and punching his neighbor while likely intoxicated in what prosecutors described as a hate crime, according to Will County court documents.
Mark Osmolski, 30, was charged with hate crime, aggravated battery and battery — the last two both felonies — after an incident June 17 in the 24000 block of Leski Lane, documents show.
According to prosecutors, a man, 50, was getting his mail in the evening when Osmolski, who lives across the street with his mother, started yelling racial slurs at him. Osmolski approached the resident, pushed him, and before he could get away, punched him in the face while continuing to yell slurs, according to the documents obtained by Patch. Prosecutors said the victim's 22-year-old daughter witnessed the incident.

The victim's palm and lip were cut, and his clothing had debris in it, according to prosecutors. Osmolski's mother said she no longer wanted her son to live with her, officials said.
Plainfield police, who were called to the block at 5:57 p.m., placed Osmolski under arrest, but he continued to use racial slurs and make "numerous unsolicited comments," prosecutors outlined. According to documents, Osmolski said that "if it weren't for him drinking, he would have killed [the victim]."

"Other than the racial slurs, there is no other known reason for the defendant's attack on [the victim]," documents state. "There is no reason to not believe the threats he made."
At the time, Osmolski was on supervision for an aggravated battery offense that had been reduced to a disorderly conduct misdemeanor in January. He was previously charged with driving under the influence in 2017 and 2022. In 2023, he was accused of spraying a can of nitrous oxide gas at a 54-year-old relative during an argument at the Super 8 motel in Joliet, Patch reported.
Osmolski appeared in court on June 19 and was released on pre-trial conditions. He was directed to surrender all firearms, his Firearm Owner's Identification Card and any Concealed Carry License. He was also ordered to have no contact with the resident he is accused of battering or with his address until further order from the court.
The Plainfield man's next court date is set for July 3.
