Elderly Woman Found Dead After Firefighters Respond To Smoke

The Lockport Fire Protection District responded to reports of smoke at a Plainfield residence on Saturday and found one person dead.

PLAINFIELD, IL — An elderly Plainfield woman was found dead on arrival by firefighters of the Lockport Fire Protection District on Saturday, Jan. 25. The firefighters were responding to reports of smoke coming from a multi-family dwelling on the 13300 block of Bayberry Lane in Plainfield shortly after 8 p.m. when they found her.

"[The victim] had some sort of medical emergency... she just had a pot of food on the stove that smoked up the house a little bit," Lockport Fire Deputy Chief Frank Blaskey said. "So there was no fire, it was a medical emergency that caused her to be unresponsive... it wasn't a result of a fire."

According to Blaskey, there was no fire at the scene, and the Plainfield woman's death was unrelated to the smoke coming from the dwelling.
