'Loud Booms' Reported In Plainfield, Police Investigating: PD

Police said Wednesday that they're investigating the "disturbances."

PLAINFIELD, IL — Several residents have reported hearing "loud booms" throughout Plainfield, prompting police to investigate, officials said Wednesday morning.

The sounds were reported near the Grande Park subdivision in northern Plainfield and Mather Woods on the village's south side.

Commander Anthony Novak told Patch that some residents believed the sounds came from fighter jets while others thought they could have been fireworks or explosives.

"We have been unable to identify the cause and have several different theories, none of which we have any evidence to support at this time," he said.

Police asked anyone with information about the "disturbances" to contact the department at 815-436-2341.
