The good news came after false information was posted on Facebook saying Lucy had been found deceased underneath the semi. Lucy's owner said that wasn't the case, and while Lucy is microchipped, she wasn't wearing any tags when she went missing.

Owner Andrew Smayda, a Florida resident, said he was taken from the crash scene via ambulance and did not have the means to get back to the crash scene to look for his dog. No one else was hurt in the crash.

Smayda thanked the community for helping search for his dog and helping him and his fiancee after the crash.

"These residents got together," he said in a message to Patch. "(Stopped) their own lives and showed how pure hearted your town is! They clothed us! They fed us! They showed compassion to us! Without asking for a thing in return. Every single one expressed to Jennifer and I both that was what Plainfield is about. From the Law Enforcement to EMTs to the doctors and down to the Nurses. We felt more at home than we do at home!"

He said he and his fiancee adopted Lucy on Christmas Eve and "she became our everything."

"We as truck drivers strive to deliver goods and services through all types of weather," Smayda wrote, continuing:

"The company I work for Time Definite/Specialized Services were there for us. But most importantly strangers in a town that truly has service, dedication and love for one and all stepped up huge! I don't know but I truly feel these people acted selflessly for the last four days. Jennifer and I will always be grateful for these people. Every single one of them! Lucy is now back with her Furrever Family because if the actions of the people in your community!"
