Month-Long Plainfield Police Campaign Leads To 83 Citations: Cops

Plainfield police hosted a month-long distracted driving enforcement in April.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police's enforcement campaign for Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April resulted in a total of 83 tickets issued to drivers in the area, officials reported.

Citations included 56 for hands-free violations, 10 for speeding and 17 for other offenses, police said. Officers also issued 18 written warnings and made three traffic-related arrests.

Plainfield police joined forces with Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement and highway safety partners to enforce distracted driving laws for a month.

"Driver distraction is a persistent issue that often has [life-altering] consequences," police wrote in a news release. "Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but we will continue our efforts to stop motorists from engaging in this deadly behavior."
