More Than 1K New Coronavirus Cases In 5 Days In Will County: WCHD

WILL COUNTY, IL — Will County saw more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases in five days, according to public health data. The Will County Health Department on Tuesday reported 59,246 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 1,012 from Friday, and 805 reported deaths from the virus, an increase of seven during the same period.
Joliet continues to have the highest number of cases in the county each week, and for the week of Jan. 4, the city had 488 cases, according to the WCHD website. Plainfield had the second-highest number at 407 cases, while Bolingbrook ranked third-highest with 239 cases.
Will County is set to remain under Tier 3 coronavirus mitigations despite Gov. J.B. Pritzker's announcement Friday that some of Illinois can loosen its pandemic-related restrictions.

The positivity rate in Region 7 — made up of Will and Kankakee counties — has been under the 12 percent threshold for 31 straight days, as of Saturday, the most recent day for which testing data is available. The region's positivity rate stood at 7.5 percent Saturday, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
As of Tuesday, 6,806 people in the county have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, which is less than 1 percent of the total population.
