More Than 38K Coronavirus Cases, 535 Deaths In Will County

As of Sunday, the county has 38,684 coronavirus cases​, an increase of 1,970 from Wednesday, according to IDPH.

WILL COUNTY, IL — The total number of coronavirus cases in Will County have surpassed 38,000, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. As of Sunday, the county has 38,684 coronavirus cases, an increase of 1,970 from Wednesday, while reported deaths increased by 27 during the same time period to a total of 535.

The test positivity in the county was at 18.7 percent as of Friday, according to IDPH. The number of new cases per 100,000 people for the same week was 757 and the target is 50 or fewer.

The entire state is under the governor's Tier 3 mitigations and Region 7 (Will and Kankakee counties) recently also had Tier 2 mitigations imposed on them after a surge in coronavirus positivity. As of Monday, the region is at a positivity rate of 17.4 percent, an increase from 17.1 percent a few days prior.

Available ICU beds in the region have decreased to 34 out of 162 as of Sunday, and 65 out of 136 total ventilators are available.

Joliet still has the highest number of cases in the county. According to the Will County Health Department, Joliet had 955 reported cases for the week of Nov. 9 and a week earlier it reported 535 cases. Plainfield had the second highest number in the county for the week of Nov. 9 with 620 cases, an increase of 217 from a week prior.

The statewide case positivity rate — a rolling, seven-day average — is now 10.2 percent, 0.1 percentage points higher than on Friday.
