No Coronavirus In Plainfield Schools: Dist. 202 Officials

PLAINFIELD, IL — Officials with Plainfield School District 202 sent out a text on Wednesday morning dismissing a rumor that a new coronavirus infection had been found in Plainfield South High School. The rumor apparently started on social media sites after news broke that a case of Mumps, a far more common viral illness, had been confirmed at the school.

The text stated in no uncertain terms that the COVID-19 virus was not present at Plainfield South or any other District 202 school. Here is the full transcript of the message:

A message from PLAINFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT 202

11:45 a.m.

Good morning District 202 Families and Staff,

Moments ago, we became aware of a photo circulating on social media of the message we sent yesterday regarding a single case of mumps at Plainfield South High School.
In this photo, the word "mumps" was deleted and replaced with the word "Covid-19" (which is the official name for Coronavirus.)

This is absolutely false.

At this time, there is no Covid-19 at Plainfield South or anywhere in District 202 to our knowledge.
This message was posted by a student from outside District 202 and we are addressing the dangerous implications of this posting with the officials at that student's school.

We apologize for any confusion and appreciate your continued support.

To date there are 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Illinois, and the World Health Organization has officially declared the virus a pandemic. However, no cases have yet been reported in Will or Kendall Counties, where Plainfield School District is located.
