Phone Scammer Pretends To Be Plainfield Police Officer: PD

Anyone questioning if a call from the Plainfield Police Department is legitimate should call the agency to confirm, officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police are warning locals of a scammer pretending to be an officer over the phone.

In an alert published Wednesday afternoon on Facebook, officials said the department has been made aware of a phone scam where the caller identifies themselves as a Plainfield officer and requests a callback due to an "urgent legal matter." The number shows as if it's coming from the Plainfield Police Department, but the return number isn't associated with the agency.

Anyone who receives the call and is unsure of its legitimacy should call the department's non-emergency number at 815-439-2830 and ask to speak to a supervisor to confirm, officials said.
