Plainfield, Aurora Men Accused Of Scaling Chicago Skyscraper

The 28-year-olds face charges after witnesses say they climbed 72 feet of scaffolding on Vista Tower, a luxury condo development.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Two men from Plainfield and Aurora are facing charges after witnesses say they scaled 72 feet of scaffolding in an attempt to climb up a Chicago skyscraper under construction. Daniel Pierce, 28 of Plainfield and David Gonya, 28 of Aurora are charged with reckless misconduct and criminal trespassing.

The two men were arrested Saturday after they reached the ground following their attempt to climb the Vista Tower development at 363 E. Wacker Drive, police told ABC Chicago.

The luxury condo development is still under construction, with an anticipated 2020 completion date.

Vista Tower's website describes the project by saying, "At 101 stories, Vista offers sweeping views that span the Chicago cityscape." The development will also offer Sky 360 residences offering "unrivalled (sic) features of the utmost quality," according to Vista Tower. Residents are expected to begin moving in starting next year.

Neither Pierce nor Gonya appear to have any previous arrests in Will County.
