Plainfield Board Meeting Moves Online Amid Coronavirus Concerns

In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the Plainfield Village Board has decided to move its Monday meeting online.

PLAINFIELD, IL — As the coronavirus crisis continues, Plainfield village administrators told Patch on Monday, April 6 that its meeting for the same night would be moving online. The meeting will be live-streamed from 7 p.m. on the village website, and will also be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 6 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99.

Due to Governor Pritzker's executive order banning public gatherings of over ten people, residents wishing to attend tonight's meeting are encouraged to do so online. A physical meeting will still be held at Village Hall, but Village Clerk Michelle Gibas said it would only be herself, Mayor Michael Collins and Village Administrator Brian Murphy in attendance. Even the village trustees will be participating remotely.

Murphy hinted at the village meetings taking a form like this at the last village board meeting in March, though at that time he said he wasn't sure what the specifics would be. Now it seems those details have been resolved. As long as the coronavirus crisis continues, it is likely that this digital format will become the norm.
