Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade Kicks Off Saturday
This year's event will have a new parade route due to road construction.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade kicks off Saturday morning, with the village closing area roads to make way for the high school homecoming event. A new parade route is also being implemented this year, due to road construction.
The community-wide homecoming parade will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday in Downtown Plainfield. Motorists not planning to view the parade should avoid the Downtown area between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and noon on Saturday, according to the Plainfield Police Department.
This year's theme for the parade is "storytime," according to District 202. Staging for parade participants will take place at Village Hall and Ira Jones Middle School.

A new parade route will be implemented this year, thanks to ongoing road work. The parade will begin at Van Dyke Road and Lockport Street at 9 a.m., and will travel east on Lockport Street before turning onto Main Street.
From Main Street, the parade will travel to Illinois Street and turn south. At Lockport Street, the parade will turn west and proceed through Downtown. It will then turn south on James Street and finish at Plainfield Central High School.

The event coincides with Plainfield Central's homecoming game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Plainfield East. Plainfield North, South and East all have homecoming football games on Oct. 4.
Here are a list of street closures being implemented for the parade, according to the Plainfield Police Department. The roads will close at about 8:30 a.m.
- IL Route 126 (Lockport Street & Main Street) from Wallin Drive to Route 59
- Van Dyke Road south of Lockport Street to Ottawa Street
- James Street from Lockport Street to Fort Beggs Drive
- Lockport Street from Main Street to Route 59
- Illinois Street between Main Street and Lockport Street
- Des Plaines Street between Main Street and Lockport Street
- Fox River Street at Lockport Street
- Fort Beggs Drive between James Street and Route 59
- Vista Lane at James Street (both sides)
No traffic lanes on Route 59 will be closed, however motorists should be advised that traffic congestion and delays are expected. All roads are expected to re-open around Noon.
