Plainfield Continues To Report High Number Of COVID-19 Cases

According to the Will Co. Health Department, Plainfield reported 407 new cases during the week of Jan. 4, following Joliet with 488 cases.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield continues to have the second-highest number of new coronavirus cases in Will County, public health data shows. According to the Will County Health Department, Plainfield reported 407 new cases during the week of Jan. 4, following Joliet with 488 cases.

Throughout November and the first week of December — the only week that month for which WCHD provided data — the village has had the second-most number of weekly cases. The weekly number of cases reported were:

  • Week of Nov. 2 - 403
  • Week of Nov. 9 - 620
  • Week of Nov. 16 - 599
  • Week of Nov. 23 - 531
  • Week of Nov. 30 - 559
  • Week of Dec. 7 - 498

However, the village is showing a significant decrease in coronavirus positivity rates across all zip codes.

According to data gathered from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday, the south side of the village (zip code 60586) has an average 7-day rolling COVID-19 positivity rate of 10.81 percent, whereas the north side (zip code 60585) is at 7.96 percent and the central part (zip code 60544) has an 7.52 percent positivity rate.

The WCHD on Tuesday reported 59,246 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 1,012 from Friday, and 805 deaths from the virus, an increase of seven during the same period.

Public health officials lifted some coronavirus restrictions in Kendall County Sunday, meaning one of Plainfield's two counties has moved to the least restrictive of the state's three tiers of COVID-19 resurgence mitigation measures.

However, the other part of Plainfield, which falls under Will County, is still in Tier 3 as restrictions have not been lifted from Region 7.
