Plainfield Coronavirus Update: Now 15 Cases In Town

According to the Plainfield Police Department's latest count, there are 15 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department has once again updated its coronavirus count for the village; as of the start of April there are reportedly a total of 15 confirmed cases in town. To protect affected individuals' privacy and safety, the identities and locations of these individuals is withheld. As Plainfield is split between Will and Kendall Counties, the 15 cases are potentially among the 37 confirmed cases in Kendall, and/or the 322 confirmed cases in Will.

While police did not say whether there were yet any coronavirus-related deaths among the confirmed cases in Plainfield, there are now two confirmed coronavirus deaths in Kendall County and nine confirmed deaths in Will County. According to a study carried out in February in China, the mortality rate for males who contract coronavirus is approximately 2.8 percent, while the mortality rate for females is 1.7 percent. The study did not account for transgender or intersex individuals.

In more uplifting news, there is at least one confirmed case of coronavirus recovery in Plainfield. A 52-year-old village resident named Don Berlin approached the Joliet-based Herald-News earlier this week to describe his experience surviving coronavirus. The Herald-News reported Berlin was treated at Edward Hospital in Naperville, and was released on March 25.

All village residents are reminded to continue staying at home and practicing social distancing when leaving the house is unavoidable. Regularly washing hands and sanitizing high-use surfaces will also help spread the slow of the virus.
