PLAINFIELD, IL — As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Plainfield Fire Protection District will host its annual open house on Saturday. The event allows the community to meet its first reponders, while also teaching the public life-saving measures.

Fire Station Two at 23806 W. 135th St. will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will include a children's firefighter challenge, live demonstrations, displays and free refreshments.

This year's event has the theme "Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape." The theme is meant to teach families to be prepared in case of a fire by having multiple exit routes from a home.
