Plainfield Fire Dept. Launches 'Teddy Bear Hunt' Amid Coronavirus

The Plainfield Fire Protection District is urging all parents to display teddy bears in their windows to lift kids' spirits.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Fire Protection District is urging all households to put a teddy bear, if they have one, in their front house or apartment window. They're calling it the 'Teddy Bear Hunt;' a challenge for children to look for the bears while out for a walk. As the coronavirus crisis continues, the bears will hopefully help to lift children's spirits and alleviate a bit of their boredom during an admittedly scary time.

"It's so if the kids are out for a walk with their parents, they have something else to do besides just walk," The fire district's EMS Coordinator Cheryl Hansen said.

Hansen said the original plan was for the teddy bear hunt to run between March 22 and March 28. With the coronavirus crisis showing no signs of ending anytime soon, though, the decision was made to extend the hunt indefinitely.
