Plainfield Fire Protection District Seeks Donations
Funds will go to the Plainfield Fire Protection District and its effort to provide a special camp experience for children and teens.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Fire Protection District is seeking the community’s support for its “Fill the Boot for Burn Camp” fundraiser, set for May 4. Firefighters and paramedics will collect donations outside the Wal-Mart in the area of 127th Street and Route 59.
The collections will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 with the goal of raising proceeds for burn camp.
All funds will go to the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s camp, which is called “I Am Me.” Proceeds are meant to help provide a special one-week camp experience for children and teenagers who have experienced injuries from burns.

Through donors, supporters and volunteers, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance offers this camping opportunity at no cost to campers. The program provides lodging, meals, activities, and transportation to and from camp, located at YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside.
“Camp ‘I Am Me’ provides the setting for child burn survivors to share their common experiences, while being able to play and not feel self-conscious about their scars providing physical, psychological, and emotional benefits to campers,” officials said in a statement.

Since 1991, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance has provided a safe, non-judgmental environment for children to have the opportunity to build their self-esteem, as they enjoy the varied activities that make up their camp experience.
