Plainfield Fireworks 2019: Guide To The Patriotic Picnic
Plainfield's Independence Day celebration, the Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks, returns on Wednesday.
PLAINFIELD, IL — July 4th is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find some patriotic events going on near you. We gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Plainfield so you can start planning.

- What: While many towns host fireworks on the 4th of July, Plainfield starts a day early with the Plainfield Park District's Patriotic Picnic & Fireworks.
- Where: Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive
- When: 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3
- Schedule of events:
- 6 p.m.: Raising of the Flag followed by decorating of bikes
- 6:30 p.m.: Kids’ Patriotic Bike Parade and Family Fun
- 7 p.m.: Dance Performance by Park District Dance Camps
- 8:15 p.m.: Inflatables close and Retire the Colors led by the Plainfield American Legion.

Bring your blankets, picnic baskets, lawn chairs and coolers. Concessions will be available. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on school property.
As for the weather, there's a 20 percent chance of storms Wednesday night, with a daytime high of 87 degrees but cooler temps expected during the picnic.

Road closings, parking info
Prior to the picnic, Fort Beggs Drive will close at 5 p.m. The road is expected to reopen at around 10:30 p.m.
The parking lot and bike path at Greg Bott Community Park will close at 10 a.m. July 3. The Prairie Activity and Recreation Center (PARC) will be open until 10 p.m. Parking will be limited to the lots immediately south and east of the building. The soccer field on the south side of the Park will remain open for public viewing of the fireworks show. No parking will be allowed along Renwick Road.
Parking for the Patriotic Picnic will be on the main campus of Plainfield Central High School. The rear parking lots will be accessible from James Street near Commercial Street and from Route 59 and Fort Beggs Drive. Handicapped parking will be accessible near the front of the school. Parking will be prohibited on Fort Beggs Drive, River Road, and on one side of each of the following streets: Commercial Street, Fox River Street, Ottawa Street and Hometown Drive.
