Update: Town 'Relatively Quiet' After Storm

More study needed to determine if tornado touched down in Plainfield Wednesday.

Update 7:35 p.m. A spokeswoman from the National Weather Service said they don't believe at this time a tornado touched down in Plainfield Wednesday night, though more data will be collected in the next 24 hours. 

Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the department is also not aware and has had no calls about a tornado on the ground. Stratton also said the town has been "relatively quiet" in terms of emergency situations. 

Update 7:25 p.m.
A flash flood warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. 

Update 6 p.m.
Plainfield Patch Facebook users have reported spotting funnel clouds around the Plainfield area. One user even posted this video. 

Update 5 p.m. 
Due to inclement weather, tonight’s Strategic Planning Meeting at Plainfield North High School has been cancelled.

Update 4:45 p.m.
Weather Channel crews were spotted in Plainfield near Caton Farm and County Line Roads. 

Update 4 p.m. 
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Kendall, Kane, Will and Grundy counties through 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Update 1 p.m.
 The National Weather Service is now classify the threat of severe weather Wednesday afternoon as "high risk."

The entire Chicagoland area could see severe storms Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Illinois—including Will County—in the "slight risk" category for severe weather on Wednesday, with a portion of Illinois south of Chicago in the "moderate risk" category. The Storm Prediction Center says a "slight risk" means that "well-organized severe thunderstorms are expected, but in small numbers and/or low coverage."

According to the weather service, residents of Plainfield could see:

  • STRONG TORNADOES
  • DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH
  • HAIL TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS
  • VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING
Look for severe weather to being late Wednesday afternoon into the early evening.
