Plainfield Irish Parade Road Closings Announced
This year marks the 17th annual Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The 2019 Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade will occur at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 10, and will cause traffic delays in and around downtown Plainfield. If you are not participating in, or viewing the parade, motorists are encouraged to avoid the downtown area on Sunday afternoon between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. due to heavier than normal traffic movement and road closures.

- Des Plaines Street between Lockport Street and Chicago Street will be closed for the placement of a family entertainment area. This area will remain closed through 6 p.m. Sunday.
- Crowd barriers and traffic barricades will be pre-positioned in the downtown area along Lockport Street, James Street, Illinois Street and Commercial Street.
- Parking along these same streets will be restricted. Vehicles that remain within the parade route will be towed at the owners’ expense after 11 a.m.
Starting at 12:30 p.m. on March 10:
- Police will close the following roadways:
- James Street from Fort Beggs Drive to Lockport Street
- Lockport Street from Main Street (Route 126) to Route 59
- Illinois Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
- Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street
- Chicago Street from Illinois Street to Fox River Street
- Ottawa Street from Illinois Street to James Street
- Des Plaines Street from Oak Street to Ottawa Street
- Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
All streets will re-open as soon as the parade has cleared the area (anticipated to be approximately 3 p.m.), except Des Plaines Street between Lockport Street, and Chicago Street will remain closed until approximately 6 p.m. for the family activity area.

Route 59 will not be closed; however, motorists should be advised that traffic back-up and delays are expected.
Parade staging and line-up will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Plainfield Central High School, located at 24120 West Fort Beggs Drive.
The parade will begin at Plainfield Central High School; travel north on James Street to Lockport Street; travel east on Lockport Street to Illinois Street; travel south on Illinois Street to Commercial Street; and travel west on Commercial Street to James Street; to return to PCHS.
No parking will be allowed along the parade route beginning at 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 10 until the conclusion of the parade. Parking areas have been designated at Plainfield Central High School, and the Village municipal parking lots on Des Plaines Street (across from Oak Street), and Illinois Street (next to the Library). Handicapped parking will be accessible on Des Plaines Street north of Lockport Street and on the north side of Chicago Street between Illinois Street and Des Plaines Street.
