Plainfield Library Opens To Public July 8 With Limited Capacity

A maximum of 20 people will be allowed inside at any given time.

PLAINFIELD, IL — In a news release Friday, the Plainfield Public Library District announced that it is reopening to the public July 8 as the state moves to Phase 4 of the governor's Restore Illinois reopening plan.

"Restrictions will be in place, and we appreciate your cooperation and patience as we enter this next phase," the district said in the release.

  • A grab-and-go service will be in place. More details on this will be released soon.
  • Library hours will be limited.
  • A maximum of 20 people will be allowed inside at any given time.
  • Curbside pickup will continue.
  • Staff and patrons will be required to wear face masks.

While other establishments have been following the statewide plan, the district also worked on its own four-phase reopening plan to ensure safety of its staff and guests. Phase 1 began on May 18 and the second phase began on June 1.

Even though virtual programs such as Summer Reading kicked off, the library was still closed to the public, and according to the social media post, the July 8 opening can be considered Phase 3 of the plan and book drops could also potentially restart.

The Friday release however also stated that these plans could change on the basis of directives from the governor or CDC.
