Plainfield Lions Break Record Again With Christmas Basket Program

The club donated Jewel gift cards to 181 families this year thanks to a record-breaking amount of donations, organizers said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Lions Club broke their record again with how much money they raised for their 2024 Christmas Basket program.

The organization helped 181 families — for a total of 976 people — by donating a record $48,800 in Jewel gift cards, program chairman Larry Wiers wrote in a Letter to the Editor. Thirty-nine community donors also broke the club's record by giving $24,730 this year.

Organizers were also able to get more bang for their buck this year as a result of Jewel discounting the gift cards by $2,440, Wiers said.
