PLAINFIELD, IL — A 67-year-old Plainfield man has again been arrested after allegedly harassing his neighbors, according to police. This time, however, it was because the man was allegedly angry at a neighbor for previously calling the police on him. Now, at least one neighbor has taken out an order of protection against the man.

William E. Wheeler was arrested on Sept. 10 and charged with disorderly conduct after yet another confrontation with neighbors, according to Plainfield Police. Officers were dispatched to the area near Wheeler's home in the 22000 block of Bussey Drive after neighbors said he was acting belligerent and confrontational, Plainfield Sgt. Mike Fisher said.

Wheeler appeared to be intoxicated, and was allegedly harassing a neighbor about previously calling the police on him, Fisher said.

"He wanted to confront one of the neighbors about the prior confrontation," Fisher said. "[The neighbor] didn't want to, but he persisted."

Wheeler told police that a neighbor had struck him, but there was no evidence to support the claim, Fisher said.

Wheeler was allegedly angry about the previous run-in with a neighbor. On Aug. 29, Wheeler was allegedly shooting a starter pistol in his backyard when a neighbor asked him to stop. A confrontation ensued, and Wheeler was later arrested for harassing the neighbor with the starter pistol and damaging the neighbor's home, police said at the time.

Wheeler paid his bond in the case and was released from Plainfield Police lockup, police said at the time.

Following the Sept. 10 incident, Wheeler was charged with disorderly conduct. He was given an I-bond and the Will County State's Attorney has been notified of additional charges being pressed against Wheeler, Fisher said. The two incidents are considered related, and the State's Attorney's office will decide whether to move forward with the new charges, he said.

On Sept. 11, a neighbor of Wheeler's took out an order of protection against him, court records show. The no-contact order was approved by a judge.
