Plainfield Mayor Signs Declaration Of Emergency For Village
The declaration was signed on Monday, March 16 and allows the village to enact its emergency operations plan.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Mayor Michael Collins signed a Declaration of Emergency for Plainfield on Monday evening, allowing the village government to enact its emergency operations plan and free up additional resources to assist residents during the crisis. Village buildings will remain open, but village staff will be asked to act with social distancing in mind, so face-to-face interactions between residents and staff will be at a minimum.
On Monday, the first case of coronavirus in Illinois was confirmed.

Plainfield, IL - Today, Mayor Collins signed a Declaration of Disaster. This is an important step in the Village's response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The declaration allows the Village to enact its emergency operations plan and access resources, equipment, and personnel in order to assist Plainfield residents.
The Village's buildings including Village Hall, Public Works, and the Police Department remain open. However, we are employing social distancing measures at all of the buildings for the protection of the community and our employees. Therefore, you will see changes at each of our facilities to reduce person-to-person contact.

Important Updates:
- The Village Hall and Police Department will still serve as polling places tomorrow.
- The Village Hall is no longer hosting community meetings.
- The Plan Commission Meeting originally scheduled for March 16 has been cancelled.
- Garbage and recycling collection will continue uninterrupted.
- The Planning Department and Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce are working with the business community to promote curbside service for restaurants and businesses.
- Public Works operations continue to operate normally.
- The Building Department continues to inspect residential and commercial properties.
We encourage everyone to follow the protocols and recommendations set forth by the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health including:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
- Disinfect surfaces people touch regularly.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Maintain a 6-foot gap to other people when appropriate.
- If you feel ill, stay home, and seek the guidance of your physician.
