Plainfield North Student Crowned State Archery Champ
Plainfield North High School Sophomore Dana Janiec won the state archery championship in August.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield North High School student Dana Janiec won the state archery championship, beating out 23 women across all divisions and all ages at the August tournament. Throughout the tournament, Janiec beat fellow students and adult women to be crowned the winner, according to the School District 202.
After winning the gold medal in the Junior Olympic Archery Development tournament in March 2018, Janiec decided to raise the bar on her competition. So she entered the Overall Female Compound Bow state championship tournament, held Aug. 11 at the DuPage County Fair Grounds.
That meant she would be competing against other women aged 8 to 70 years old. The competition was daunting to the sophomore, but she still excelled in the tournament.

“Going in, I was really unsure of how I was going to do because I knew there were people who were older than me and younger kids that were also very good,” Janiec said in a statement.
Janiec earned a silver medal during qualifying rounds before finishing in the top 8 and advancing to the championship stage, District 202 said in a statement. The student was the youngest age group able to compete in the 50-meter competition, and beat out a number of competitors older and more experienced than her.
