PLAINFIELD, IL — September is National Hunger Action Month, and the Village of Plainfield is working to help fight food insecurity in the area. The village is coordinating with a number of community groups to host a food drive that will benefit a number of local food banks and charities.

The food drive and corresponding events will provide food items for the Green Harvest Food Pantry, the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry and Bags of Hope, a nonprofit that seeks to make sure local students don't go hungry. The charities are looking for unopened items like canned vegetables, flour, sugar, rice, soup, pasta, condiments, personal hygiene products, baby items, and household cleaning items.

Through September 20, donations can be dropped off at: the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, 15120 Wallin Dr; the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 24109 W. Lockport St.; Plainfield Township Community Center, 15014 S.DesPlaines St.; Prairie Activity & Recreation Center (PARC), 24550 W. Renwick Rd.; Streams Recreation Center, 24319 Cedar Creek Ln.; and the Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport St.
