Plainfield Playgrounds Reopen As Illinois Enters Phase 4

Park officials ask residents to follow IDPH guidelines and limit gatherings to less than 50 people at the playgrounds.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Playgrounds around Plainfield opened to the public Friday as Illinois entered the next phase of its reopening plan amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Park officials said in a release that the playgrounds "can be used at patrons' discretion."

"We encourage families to follow the Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines, maintain social distance, and limit gatherings to less than 50 people when using playgrounds," the release stated.

In accordance with the directives under the "Revitalization" phase of the governor's Restore Illinois plan, the park district has made the following changes to its operations as it can now open all indoor facilities:

  • Prairie Fit will resume operation on July 7 with safety precautions and changes to the operations adhering to the State of Illinois Guidelines. More information on this will be available next week.
  • Walking track will remain closed with a resume date to come shortly.
  • Gymnasium will not be resuming open gym programs at this time. Rentals are being accepted.
  • Plainfield Township Community Center and Streams Recreation Center will be open for program operations only.
  • Normantown Equestrian Center will continue to operate private lessons and outdoor camps. No public access will be permitted within the clubroom and barn aisle at this time. Additionally, parent viewing of lessons and indoor programming is still prohibited.
  • Athletic Fields and Amenities will host youth sports as practices and games are allowed to take place at any field location.
  • Basketball courts are open and all hoops will be continued to be re-installed for usage.
  • Skateparks are open.
  • Tennis Courts are open.
