PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield has grown a lot — from a sleepy small town prior to the 1990 tornado to a bustling suburb of nearly 40,000 people — since Cmdr. Kevin Greco joined the Plainfield Police Department. On Tuesday, police announced that Greco is retiring after a 30-year career.

Greco got his start with the Plainfield Police Department on July 10, 1989, beginning as a patrol officer before making his way through the ranks, "working as a D.A.R.E Officer, the first Plainfield school resource officer, detective, patrol sergeant, traffic sergeant, motor officer, detective sergeant and finishing as a commander," police said on Facebook. "During most of his career, Kevin was a supervisor who had a direct impact on how the department and the individual officers grew and evolved into what they are today. It was under Kevin’s leadership that many department policies and programs were developed and will stand as a legacy that will serve as a constant reminder of his dedication and commitment to those of us that had the pleasure of serving along side him."

The police department thanked Greco for his dedicated service, sharing a video showing highlights from his career in Plainfield.
