Plainfield Ranked 47th Safest Town in America

The ranking was based on number of crimes compared to population

Location Inc. recently ranked Plainfield as the 47th safest city in the United States. The data and mapping software company determined the number of crimes compared to population size for municipalities over 25,000 people.

The FBI data used in the survey included information on crimes of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, homicide, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.

Wheaton was ranked 32nd safest and New Lenox was ranked 100th safest city.

The company also ranked the most dangerous cities. East St. Louis topped the list, while Chicago didn't make it into the top 100.

The ranking of dangerous cities was based on violent crimes per population. While Wheeling, West Virginia only had 253 violent crimes, it had more crimes for its small population than Chicago, which had nearly 25,000 violent crimes for a population of 2.7 million.
