Romeoville Murder: Plainfield Man Who Fled To Georgia Apprehended
Dieontae Ricky Sparks, 19, was apprehended without incident in connection with a March 30 Romeoville murder.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Will County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Romeoville Police Department and members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, has captured and arrested a Plainfield teen in connection to murder charges, authorities announced. Dieontae Ricky Sparks, 19, was apprehended on Thursday in Atlanta.
Sparks — who is currently housed in the DeKalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia — is facing charges in connection to a homicide that occurred on March 30. The Romeoville Police Department had obtained an arrest warrant for charges related to the incident, officials said.
The effort to locate Sparks took several weeks.

Authorities believe Sparks was aware of the warrant and fled Illinois.
On April 1, the Romeoville Police Department sought the assistance of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force with the goal of locating and apprehending Sparks.

Authorities narrowed in on a location for Sparks, and the information was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Officials said the house in question was surveyed in the days prior to May 2.
When investigators approached the residence, Sparks tried to flee, but he was later apprehended without incident.
Sparks’ criminal history includes arrests for weapons, robbery and assault.
Sparks, who is currently awaiting extradition proceedings, will face murder charges upon his return to Illinois, police said.
