Residents Recycle More Than 230,000 Pounds of Electronics, Hazardous Waste

After only one year, Plainfield residents have diverted more than 230,000 pounds of home-generated special materials from landfills.

PLAINFIELD, IL - After only one year, Plainfield residents have diverted more than 230,000 pounds of home-generated special materials from landfills.

They've accomplished the feat thanks to At Your Door Special Collection, a retrieval service offered by Waste Management, according to a community alert. The program includes pre-arranged pickups and is open to all Plainfield residents who rely on the village for their garbage and recycling needs.

So far, At Your Door has reportedly yielded 186,000 pounds of picked-up electronics in Plainfield — among them, 1,400 TVs. While televisions leads the list of most commonly collected items, latex paint, flammable liquids, microwaves, printers, and motor oil also rank high. More than 573 gallons of motor oil have been collected over the course of six months, the alert says.
