Settlers' Park Playground Torn Down To Prepare For New Set
The new $61K playground will be installed within the next two months and the old one has been donated to nonprofit Kids Around the World.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The Village of Plainfield has torn down the Settlers' Park playground in order to replace it with a new one within the next couple of months, said village Community Relations Director Amy De Boni.
Plainfield Board of Trustees unanimously approved a new $61,000 playground for Settlers' Park during their meeting last November.
According to village officials, the park's current playground was nearing the end of its lifespan and needed to be replaced. The average lifespan for playground equipment, they said, is 15-20 years. The Settlers' Park playground was completed 17 years ago.

The existing set was donated to Kids Around the World, nonprofit that establishes playgrounds in poverty-stricken communities, restoring the opportunity for kids to enjoy the kind of play that is key to their physical, emotional, spiritual and cognitive development.
"We will be sending out a press release about the project as soon as Kids Around the World has a destination for the set," she said.
