Sex Acts Disrupt Plainfield D202 Middle School Zoom Class

During a middle school science class Monday, one screen on Zoom showed a woman masturbating while the other showed a couple having sex.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield School District 202 students doing remote learning recently got to witness pornographic content during their Zoom lesson. Commander Ken Ruggles from the Plainfield Police Department told Patch that a parent called the police at 9:57 a.m. Monday, informing them about it.

During a middle school science class, the Zoom call was bombarded with one screen showing a woman masturbating, and another showing a man and a woman having sex, Ruggles said. He said they've received just one complaint so far.

"The parent was obviously upset," he said. "We are investigating the incident. The IP address of the offender(s) came from outside the State of Illinois."

Ruggles said D202 is aware of the incident and is conducting its own investigation, while also cooperating with the police. District spokesperson Tom Hernandez told Patch that this kind of thing has happened to many school districts doing online classes right now, and "it is an unfortunate aspect of remote learning."

He said the district has appropriate safety mechanisms and protocols in place and those were reviewed with the teacher conducting the Zoom class.

"The parents rightly called the Plainfield police while we were doing our own internal investigation," Hernandez said. "We called the police ourselves later when we had all the right information, and of course we will continue working with them as needed."

He apologized for this incident on behalf of the district and refused to further comment on the matter at this time.
