Plainfield Police Commander Anthony Novak said that while vehicle pursuits are allowed in Plainfield, they must be weighed against safety and traffic factors before being carried out or continued. In this case, he said, the officer involved decided that a pursuit wan't worth continuing.
"The officer and the supervisors have to weigh the danger associated with the pursuit to apprehending the party involved... the vehicle was travelling at a high speed, [the officer] lost sight of the vehicle, so he took the discretion to terminate the pursuit," Novak said.
