Threat Against JFK School Just A Rumor, Police Say
Plainfield Police said the rumors and social media posts about a threat to the school were unfounded.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Rumors of a threat against John F. Kennedy Middle School were unfounded, according to Plainfield Police. That assessment came after an investigation into social media posts and rumors made at the District 202 school. There has been no disruption to classes today, though there may be a greater police presence at the school, officials said.
"These rumors have been investigates and no evidence has been found to support the rumors," Plainfield police said on a Facebook post. "Anyone having info in regards to these posts, please contact the PD."
JFK school officials were made aware of the rumors of the threat, as were the Plainfield police, Principal AJ Hundal said in a letter to parents Friday morning. Despite there being no credible threat, an additional police presence could be in the area, he said.

"Please know that you would hear directly from us if there ever was a viable safety concern," Hundal said in the letter. "I encourage parents to not believe that they hear on social media or through the rumor mill."
The incident at JFK is the second perceived school threat in the area in as many days. The other one, at Oswego East High School, was also determined to not be credible, but the incident still resulted in charges being filed against a 14-year-old girl.
