Two Break Windows, Steal From Local Vape Seller: Police

The two 15-year-old subjects entered the store by breaking the windows with an aluminum bat, the Plainfield police said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A local business was broken into and looted by two juvenile subjects on Monday, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

At approximately 1:49 a.m., officers were traveling southbound on Route 59 and observed two subjects, wearing black hoodies, standing in front of SmokeOVapor located at 13530 S. Route 59.

The Officers also observed the glass door and a window to the business had been broken. The two subjects saw the squad car and fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the two subjects.

During the investigation, it was determined the two subjects entered the business after breaking the glass door and window with an aluminum baseball bat, which was recovered at the scene. They entered the business and stole an unknown number of vape products from inside the store before fleeing the area.

Detectives learned two male subjects were attempting to sell vape products on SnapChat that matched the items stolen from the business. Two male white juveniles — both 15 years of age — from the Plainfield area were identified and interviews were conducted.

Both admitted to breaking into the business and stealing the items. Detectives were also able to recover much of the stolen items from their residences. Both juveniles were taken into custody and transported to the Plainfield Police Department, where they were booked and later released to their respective parents, after being charged with burglary and criminal damage to property and referred to the Will County Juvenile Court.
