Village Of Plainfield Board Approves New 5-Year Waste Management Deal

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Village of Plainfield recently approved a new five-year contract with Waste Management, which will continue a weekly take-all service for residents’ trash and recycling and that now offers a discount for area seniors, the village announced on Thursday.

In addition to the weekly trash and recycling pick-up, the village will continue to pick up yard waste between the months of April and mid-December. The At Your Door program, which provides household hazardous waste and electronics collection for local residents, will also continue under the new contract, village officials said.

The new five-year deal also includes several new benefits, including a $2 monthly discount for local seniors. The discount was automatically applied to resident accounts who currently receive a discount on their water bill, the village said. To receive the discount, residents must qualify for the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption through the county, the village said.

If residents have questions regarding the Freeze Exemption and if they qualify, they should contact the Will County Supervisor of Assessments at (815) 740-4648 or Kendall County Supervisor of Assessments at (630) 553-4146.

Once approved for the exemption, newly qualified residents should submit the required documentation to the Village’s Utility Billing Division to ensure that the discount is applied to their account. In addition to the senior discount, other new benefits to the Waste Management contract include:

• Yard Waste Cart Discount Purchase Program: Residents can purchase a yard waste cart at the discounted rate of $80. To order a yard waste cart, please contact Waste Management at 800-964-8988. Payment will be required at the time residents place the order. This program is available for a limited time and discounted yard waste carts must be purchased by March 31. Carts will be delivered this spring.
• Bulk Items: Waste Management will now pick up two bulk items (couches, small tables, mattresses, and chairs) per week.
