Will County Coronavirus Positivity At Its Lowest Since July: IDPH

As of Friday, the county has a test positivity of 4.8 percent, which is down more than 75 percent since its all-time high in November.

WILL COUNTY, IL — Coronavirus positivity in Will County is at its lowest since last July, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. As of Friday, the county has a test positivity of 4.8 percent, which is down more than 75 percent from its all-time high of 19.9 percent in mid-November as coronavirus cases surged in the area.

The positivity rate in Will County has fallen steadily over the last several weeks. The last time test positivity in the county was below 5 percent was July 16.

The South Suburban Region, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, also saw its positivity rate fall to 4.5 percent as of Friday. The region's positivity rate peaked at 20.6 percent on Nov. 17. The hospital bed capacity remains at adequate levels in the region as well. As of Sunday, the region had 29 percent of its hospital beds available and the threshold for this metric is at least 20 percent.

Vaccinations continue to progress at a slow pace with more than 93,000 shots administered in the county as of Monday, according to IDPH. More than 24,000 people in the county have been fully vaccinated, which is about 3.56 percent of the county’s total population of 692,000.
