Will County Delays Property Tax Due Dates Amid Pandemic
This means that residents can now split their payments into four parts, which is usually just two installments.
WILL COUNTY, IL — Due to the dire financial consequences of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Will County Board has figured out a way to help residents. During its meeting, the board approved a delay of due dates for property taxes.
This means that residents can now split their payments into four parts, which is usually just two installments, and taxpayers are penalized if they pay late. The board had taken a similar decision last year due to the widespread unemployment as a result of the pandemic-induced shutdown.
Will County Treasurer Tim Brophy said the board should establish June 3, Aug. 3, Sept. 3 and Nov. 3 as the due dates for 2021. This early change will help his office send out about 275,000 different bills in the county. The early start this year could also benefit the county, as it saw hundreds of delinquent notices not be mailed to taxpayers in time late last year.

Brophy said despite the pandemic, his office received more than 98 percent of the money due by the first installment last year. He expects more people to take advantage of the delayed deadlines this time.
