House votes to guard Rock Island Arsenal from proposed job cuts (kwqc.com) — Rock Island residents should know the U.S. House just passed a major defense bill that blocks proposed restructuring and job cuts at the Rock Island Arsenal, at least until detailed plans are provided. The measure, backed by both Illinois and Iowa representatives, aims to stabilize the Arsenal’s workload and protect the civilian workforce that underpins the Quad Cities’ economy.

Shocking video: Rockridge School District warns of traffic violations (kwqc.com) — A Rockridge school bus in Rock Island County recently captured video of a car illegally speeding past while the bus was stopped with its stop arm out, narrowly avoiding a student. District leaders say such violations have persisted all school year despite added lights, safety reminders, and signs, and they’re reminding drivers that fines and license suspensions in Illinois and nearby Iowa are steep for ignoring stopped school buses.

Illinois community banks trim CD rates less aggressively than US peers (spglobal.com) — Rock Island County currently enjoys one of the lowest 30‑year fixed mortgage rates in Illinois at about 6.06%, tied with Franklin County. The report shows community banks and credit unions statewide trimming CD, auto loan, and mortgage rates more slowly than national peers, giving Rock Island borrowers a small edge while savers see only modest rate cuts.
