Sierra Scanlan and Samantha Pagan lead the way for the Romeoville girls at the Class 3A Marist Regional. Mike Samuelson paces the Spartan boys.

The team of S&S is moving on.

Romeoville High School senior Sierra Scanlan and her Spartan teammate, senior Samantha Pagan, turned in top-45 finishes Saturday at the Class 3A Marist Regional and advanced to the Nov. 2 Hinsdale Central Sectional.

Scanlan was clocked in 20:37 for 3 miles, good for a 25th-place finish. Pagan placed 42nd at 22:01. The two teamed to lead Romeoville to a seventh-place finish with 211 points. Marist won the regional championship with 31 points.

In the boys' Class 3A Marist Regional, Romeoville junior Mike Samuelson survived the cut. He placed 28th with a time of 16:44 and also advanced to the Nov. 2 sectional at Hinsdale Central.

Samuelson learned Monday his teammates will be joining him at Hinsdale Central. After a scoring error was discovered—and corrected—it was determined Romeoville earned one of seven qualifying team positions. Sandburg took the team title with 22 points.

The Spartans picked up contributions from senior Evan Banasiak (30th, 16:47), sophomore Ian Irvine (33rd, 16:53), freshman Carlos Ibanez (39th, 17:12), junior Matt Bush (46th, 17:22), freshman Justin Suits (51st, 17:35) and senior John Kosiek (52nd, 17:36).
